Have been here twice - once for a wax and pedi and once just for a wax, both times when pregnant. The non-toxic atmosphere is amazing and having a great selection of water based polishes was huge in my "condition." Mostly, though it was a really warm and welcoming atmosphere. Every person I interacted with was really pleasant, and Karina is especially lovely. She even remembered me when I came back the second time. Though it is a bit pricey, it's worth it for a nice experience and to support this local business.

Let me tell you how I've been searching and searching for a good nail salon in Philly seemingly to no avail and have finally found one in Tierra Mia!! now I've been to a few that I've gotten good mani's from and yet haven't tried the pedi's so in all fairness, there may be a few more to add to my lists of favorites if ever I were to check out their pedicure services. Yet as it stands to date, Tierra Mia stands alone.

I have these sandals I wear, don't know the appropriate name for them but my entire foot is exposed in them therefore my feet are constantly attracting dirt when I wear them, coupled with having gone to the beach when I went to this salon needless to say my feet had picked up a LOT of dirt on top of the fact that I get a lot more dead skin than I use to and need to maintain it often felt I needed to do away with my at home pedi this time around and let the pros do it. Although I am a cosmetologist myself, still not the same:)

Anyway I went in and was greeted by a lovely receptionist. I'd asked her which service she recommended, I had one in mind but wanted to hear her thoughts. She told me that people usually like to start off with Bagazo Del Coconut and work their way into different ones on different visits and with it being the least expensive on the menu ($40 Pedi/$20 mani) I appreciated her suggestion and went with the coconut.

The shop owner (didn't do my nails but did my daughters who got the mani version of this service) took an actual coconut broke it and shaved it for my service! My Nail Tech who's name I forget started me with a food bath with warm water to which she added vanilla which was seeping in warm water. She then proceeded to give me my pedicure, actually explaining (fancy that!) what she was doing and why. Because of all of the dirty and dead skin, she used a cleanser that is normally used for another service yet never once flinched like eww who is this women with these dirty feet, nor did she say it'll cost you extra for this! I did explain my sandals but even still she could have been rude about it and took extra care to ensure my pedicure was perfect when finished.

So once she did all of the basic pedi stuff, she brushed on organic virgin coconut oil, then took the shaved coconut and used as an exfoliate which removed any dead skin and dirt that seeps into the pores, did this from my knee down. Once this was done, she took a hot towel and wrapped my legs and wiped off the oil and coconut. Oh wait before that was the massage, an actually massage by a trained professional whom I'm paying to give this service again fancy that! And yes my sarcasm is linked to bad pedicures past.

At the end of the service she painted my nails this beautiful orange color that she picked out for me. It's a few days later and I'm amazed by the fact that I do not see any areas in which she missed, no returning dead skin no dry areas around my cuticles none of that.

It's the first time in a long time that I've gone to a nail salon and gotten the service I paid for plus some. $40 may seem steep for some but the service equaled the cost plus considering all natural organic products were used and is recommended as a monthly service, very good if you ask me.

Forgot to mention the water served with an orange slice and a piece of chocolate that I was served during my service.

I can't brag enough about this place, and sure I could go on (on the salon itself was beautiful as well) but will just say definitely check it out for yourself you won't be disappointed.

I recently moved to Philadelphia and went to Terra Mia today for a "Bikini Brisa" (narrow bikini wax).  It was a fabulous experience.  I loathe getting brazilian/bikini waxes and this was the most serene, painless experience I've had by a long shot.  Karina (who was great and completely professional) explained that the wax is an organic soy wax that doesn't pull at the skin.  I was blown away by how little it hurt (and I'm the girl who needs two Tylenol and a glass of wine before a wax for it not to feel like torture).  The spa itself was very charming, smelled like fantastic oils and had unique Columbian touches everywhere.  Finally, I really appreciated that the salon was calm and inviting and not at all pretentious.  I will absolutely be going back.

Walking into Tierra Mia is like walking into a fragrant Colombian oasis. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the salon is super clean and smells amaaaaazing. I went here for waxing and had as good an experience as one can have getting hair ripped from sensitive places :o). Karina was extremely nice and very informative. I haven't had the pleasure of getting a mani/pedi here yet, but I'm looking forward to doing so in the near future! The prices definitely make Tierra Mia mani/pedis much more of a "treat youself" place than an everyday nail salon - at least for my budget -  but then again you get what you pay for! Great place overall.

I love this spa. The organic commitment, the services and the staff are all fabulous. The polish is high maintenance but considering the alternative it is worth the extra effort. I got a brow wax the last time and the massage that came with it was so relaxing. I usually break out after traditional waxing but following Karina's instructions I had no problems.

I went on a Friday afternoon to get a pedicure. I went here to get a manicure before and I enjoyed it very much so I decided to come back and get a pedicure. The pedicure was fantastic also. I got the Colombiana and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The pedicurist wasn't rough and politely asked me to move my feet and etc. unlike some places I have been to. The paint job was wonderful also and as clean as can be. If you are looking for a cheap pedicure though this is not the place. The Colombiana which is a summer pedicure costs $58. The price is well worth the experience though.

Is it possible to enjoy  Brazilian wax? Well Tierra Mia makes it possible! Let's start with the reception - it was a blazing hot and humid afternoon, so I was worried that being sweaty would make things difficult. Heat and humidity are no problem when the staff greats you with freshly squeezed limeade sweetened with Colombian cane sugar. Did I mention the lovely bite of dark Colombian chocolate that was offered as an accompaniment? The wax itself was perfection. Not only did Karina take time to discuss all the possibilities (they offer 3 basic "down-there" wax-jobs plus special requests), she did a wonderful and efficient job and sent me off with a cooling antibacterial cream that made practically made my nether parts whistle. Inasmuch as one can actually look forward to a Brazilian, I really can't wait to go back!

I had a wonderful experience at Tierra Mia!

....I had a pedicure/manicure combo and it was so wonderful. The decor is lovely and the receptionist was very friendly. I loved the fact that all the products used on me smelled GOOD vs. gross and chemical like. The products used in my treatments contained all natural lavender, coconut and basil to name a few. I'm currently pregnant with my second child and searched high and low for a good all natural nail salon. Karina (the fabulous manicurist!) used the water-based brand of nail polish Aquarella on me. I've no problems with the polish lasting. After 10 days the pedicure is intact and the nails are chip free (and I wash my hands constantly!). The color has also stayed true and has not turned yellow-ish as another reviewer had reported. I can't wait to go back!

I admire Tierra Mia's sustainable practices

.... and use of natural ingredients in their treatments, but would give this spa five stars even if they hadn't exfoliated my hands with fresh coconut shavings. A group of us reserved Tierra for part one of a bachelorette party, and the staff could not have been more friendly, attentive to detail and expert at their particular services. On the windowsill we found towels wrapped around manicure and pedicure tools topped with a sheet of paper with our names and times for our treatments. Though we scheduled in advance, the staff had no problem adding or switching services as long as time allowed. In my case, this meant the addition of 20 minutes of reflexology on my neck and ears. At the end of it, I felt simultaneously clear-headed and heavy (not wanting to move from the chair). At $20, my manicure was only $5 more than many manicure places in the city, and it felt much more indulgent with the application of coconut oil to moisten the skin and the above-mentioned coconut flakes to get rid of any dead skin.

The spa itself is spotless, tranquil and beautifully decorated, with light wood and seasonal flowers popping out of thin vases attached to the wall behind the manicure table. And the pedicure chair, which I only had the opportunity to observe, has headphones and a spot where you can plug in your ipod.

I can't recommend Tierra Mia enough for a special event (or everyday pampering).

I discovered Tierra Mia when I moved to Philadelphia last summer.  It's fantastic!  Owners Justin and Karina are welcoming, professional and Karina gives an excellent manicure and pedicure.  I'm so pleased an all-organic nail salon is an option.  I've been getting manicures for over twenty years, and I have no reservations giving Tierra Mia Organic five, enthusiastic stars.

Went here for a brazilian wax and actually enjoyed my experience, at least as much as one can enjoy a brazilian wax! The salon has a great atmosphere and is very clean. They use organic products, which I love. Karina, who did my wax, is amazing!! She is professional, friendly, and makes you feel comfortable. She explains the process and ensures you are prepared for the areas that are the most sensitive. She uses a soy based wax that doesn't stick to the skin, making it the least painful brazilian I've had -- and I've had several in Center City Philadelphia, including one at a salon that uses blue, hard wax. I was VERY pleased with the result and Karina was very thorough. I would highly recommend this salon and will definitely be returning in the future. I'd also like to try their mani/pedi services. Get the coffee when you go, it's delicious! They also sell chocolate, which I didn't try but looked delicious as well. Thank you, Karina!!

I am allergic to fragrance, and this is the first pedicure I've been able to get in over ten years.  While some other reviewers are frustrated at not being able to bring their own polish, I LOVE that about this place.  It's great for being fragrance-free and totally wonderful for the chemically sensitive.  When they say "organic" they really mean it.  It's not cucumber scent in the cucumber scrub or something that greenwashes itself by claiming to be "98% natural"--it's actual cucumbers spun in a blender.  It's not shea butter infused with something to make it smell good--it's just shea butter.  It took me about 20 minutes on the phone to confirm that I really truly wouldn't be allergic this place.  Justin steered me toward the cucumber-sea salt pedicure over the citrus one on the off chance I'd be allergic to the essential oils used in the citrus pedi.  Karina did my pedicure, and we talked about my allergy and she was fine with eliminating the one commercial product that had fragrance.  I subjected my pedicure to a week of sand, salt water, and equatorial sun--still going strong.  So excited to have found this place!!
